Introduction: Kanha National Park is
one of the well known tiger reserve all over the world. It is situated
along the Banjar and Halon Valleys of Mandla a district of Balaghat
in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The formation of this park was after
a great issue of arguments when there got to extensive killings
of wild animals.
Species available: Kanha is a dense mixed type of forest. Animals
like Sambar, Barking Deer, Gaur and four horned Antelopes are seen
roaming around the park. It has a wide range of wild species. Kanha
is enriched with some 22 kinds of mammalian species. The mammalians
that can be seen easily are Striped Palm Squirrel, Common Langur,
Jackal, Wild Pig, Chital the Spotted Deer, Barasingha or Swamp Deer,
Sambar and Black Buck. Animals not seen commoly in the sanctuary
are Tiger, Indian Hare, Dhole or Indian Wild Dog, Barking Deer,
Indian Bison or Gaur. If one put in with some patience the sight
of beautiful animals like Indian Fox, Sloth Bear, Striped Hyena,
Jungle Cat, Leopard, Mouse Deer, Chousingha or the Four Horned Antelope,
Nilgai, Ratel and Porcupine will come into view. Some species are
very rare in view. Wolf are residing in the distant east place of
the National Park, Chinkaras are playing outside the northern boundary
of the park. Indian Pangolin, Indian Otter and small Indian Civets
are rare in view in Kanha Park. Kanha also has a good number of
bird species. Visitors should visit the bamboo and mixed forest
as it harbors various species in the grassy forest. Water birds
can be seen along the small rivers. Kanha's avifauna is not popular
in the place of Sal forest inside the Park.
Travel information: One needs to get a permit coupon with a
nominal charge of Rs 2 to visit Kanha Park for Indians and there
is extra charge for vehicles too. The nearest air route access is
possible from Nagpur at 266 km from Kanha. It is connected with
most of the major cities of the Nation. Jabalpur is the nearest
railway station to go for Kanha. It is 168 km far from Kanha and
it links with various parts of India. The state roadways operate
two buses daily. The roadways connect to all the local cities and
the interstate services too. The best time to visit is from November
to January, and it is closed during the monsoon months from July
to November.
