Introduction: Jodhpur is named for its beautiful palaces
and magnificent forts as major tourist attraction of India. It
is the second largest district of Rajasthan. Jodhpur was known
as the ancient kingdom of Marwar "The Land of Death".
Jodhpur was the biggest empire in Rajputana. It is situated beside
the Thar Desert surrounded by districts of Jaisalmer, Barmar,
Jalor, Palli, Bikaner and Nagaur all around. Jodhpur is popular
for wool, camels, cattle and production of salt. The huge Mehrangarh
Fort reveals its historical attraction and the charms of its wealth.
History: Rao Jodha, the Rajput chief founded Jodhpur in the
year 1459. He was a Rajput of the Rathore Clan. The Rathore clan
ruled over the major parts of the Marwar. Rao Jodha was also believed
to be the descendant of Rama the hero of the epic Ramayana who
was the descendant of the Sun god. This is the reason the Rathores
are called Suryavanshi the family of Sun. Rao Jodha in search
of a safer spot for his kingdom move his empire from Mandore to
Jodhpur. A sage suggested Jodha to establish his kingdom on a
crazy hill, which is known as the bird's nest. Later it came to
be known as Jodhpur.
Places of interest: The palaces and the forts are the main
attraction of Jodhpur. The Mehrangarh Fort is the main attraction,
built by Rao Jodha in 1806. Beautiful things like Phool Mahal, Sheesh
Mahal, Moti Mahal, Daulat Khana and Sileh Khana are entertaining
the tourist inside this fort. The Umaid Bhavan Palace is another
place of interest in Jodhpur. This palace has a museum inside it
that exhibits rare articles, antiquities, and relics like crafts
and paintings. The Kaylana Lake 8 km of the main Jodhpur spreading
over 84sq km is awesome place to see. Mandore Garden was once the
capital of Marwar is a place to see the cenotaphs of the former
Jodhpur rulers.
Travel information: Jodhpur is a tropical desert city accompanied
by dry and hot climate. It is scorching during the summer and mild
in winters. September to March is the most appropriate time to visit
Jodhpur. The temperature ranges from 9.5 to 42.2 degree Celsius.
It has deluxe and air conditioned travels running from all the important
cities of India. Broad gauge railways make it comfortable for the
railway travelers. The air route connects Jodhpur with cities like
Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Jaipur and Udaipur. Good lodging and dining
