Introduction: Goa is one of the smallest India states with just an area of 3702 sq km. It is located in the Sahayadri range of the Western Ghats. The boundaries of Goa are Arabian Sea on the west; Maharashtra is in the north and east and south is Karnataka. It has a tropical type of vegetation. Cashew, Teak, Coconut, Areca nuts, and Paddy are planted in Goa. The culture of Goa is a mixture of Indian and Iberian central squares are European style, Indian type of bazaar, Portuguese church and Hindu temples. It is adorn with Konkani folk song and Portuguese music and dance. The Hindu and Christian culture exist side by side.
History: Goa was a part of the Mauryan Empire, and then later the Satahavanas of Kolhapur ruled it. The Chalukyas, Siharas, Kadambas ruled over Goa one after another. The Delhi Sultanate ruled over Goa in 1312 AD. Later in the modern age Vasco De Gama the European traveler landed in Goa discovering a new sea route to India in 1498. The Portuguese arrived Goa with and intention of setting up a business center in competition with the Europeans. The king of Bijapur was defeated by the Portuguese admiral and controlled Goa. Revolving with many rulers it came to merge with independent India as union territory and in 1987 it became the twenty-fifth state of India.
Places of interest: The official capital of Goa is Panaji formerly known as Panjim by the Portuguese. It is the smallest and the most charming state capital in India. The town Vasco Da Gama or Sambhaji is a well-planned coastal town with the oldest railway tracts in service. Margao is the commercial center of Goa. It is connected to the mainland of India with railways. Mapusa is a very interesting Friday market. Here people can buy and sell anything. Beaches are the most important tourist place in Goa and stretches about 60 miles. The beaches of Goa are green and lovely.
